I’m an avid runner. I run for the selected team for Bavaria since September 2023. I started running 2019 after getting legally blind. I was looking for a new sport, because cycling didn’t work anymore. Cycling on a tandem is more like a rollercoaster and is no fun for me. My girlfriend found Achilles International Local Club Munich. Running as a sport for blind people has one outstanding aspect for me: I don’t need high concentration all the time. My guide and me hold on to a band and the guide can tell me direction and speed adjustments haptically. This works very intuitively. When running a long I can really run without thinking about it. It’s very relaxing.
After attending the Berlin Marathon Carlos, the head trainer from Bavarian Para Athletics, asked me to join his selected team. Now I run 6 times a week with one day off. I train for competitions and try to improve my time. But I still have relaxing runs each week as part of my training schedule. It’s a very challenging schedule and finding 6 guides each week is no easy thing either. But thanks to Achilles I always find someone to run with.
